Are You Seeing Writing On The Walls? You Are Not Alone!

Your stories about seeing writing on the walls when waking in the night has become one of the most popular threads in my Psychic Articles and Guest Posts. 

So, I expanded this section of the site so that you can post your own account, as an article of your own, or continue to comment on the posts already published below.

I must thank Lisa in Alabama for submitting the very first post on this subject in 2008. With now over ten years of contributions from peeps all over the world it becomes clear that there are several common threads to the mysterious phenomenon of seeing writing on the walls.

The meaning of seeing writing on the walls is an ongoing mystery. One school of thought is that this is hypnagogic hallucination. (imagined sensations that seem very real)

So, my story is different to many of the ones I’ve read here. I didn’t see writing on the walls, but I woke one night and saw hieroglyphs as if they were imprinted on my eyes. Like the writing was right in front of me and when I blinked it was still there. The thing that struck me the most was that it was the most beautiful bright blue colour I’ve ever seen. I smiled at how amazing it was, and I was trying to absorb what was going on. I couldn’t understand what was happening and I was confused at what I was looking at. Then I told myself I should lie down and close my eyes. I was so comforted, and I remember feeling very calm but excited at the same time. I must have fallen back asleep pretty quickly because all I remember was waking up and instantly remembered what I’d just seen. It was symbols that I didn’t understand but I’ll never forget that blue colour. – Jake – England

Seeing Writing On The Walls. Last night, about 2:30am, I woke to see glowing red, yellow and black writing on the hallway wall outside my room. I lay looking at it for 10 or 15 minutes, blinking and trying to make sense of it. They were symbols I didn’t recognize, and they didn’t fade until I got up to go potty. It was a real comfort to know I’m not the only one, but I’m very interested to understand what it means. I’m no stranger to paranormal experiences, but this is a new one on me. From time to time I see incomprehensible writings on my wall when I wake up in the morning. It’s written in florescent green, and it only lasts a few seconds. Seeing writing on the walls! –  Eleven years ago, my wife was pregnant. We were so happy. I awoke to purple writing all over the corner of the bedroom wall that would not go away. I memorized one line and forced myself back to sleep. When I woke, I wrote down what I saw and looked to match the symbols to a language.  It was aromatic and said something about Jesus. I have since lost the note because I was looking for years to find a group like this. Days later we lost the baby but not before being visited by a green orb prior to finding out about our loss. Red Writing on the Ceiling – Does not go away and comes back multiple times a week. Has anyone yet been able to figure out what these writings are or what they mean?  I woke up the first time a couple weeks ago with red words on the ceiling and after ten times of opening and closing my eyes they did not fade as I really thought they would. I freaked out the first night obviously and did not want to see them.  Now, I am seeing them almost every night. Sharp letters and I cannot make out what they say, I may have seen the word AND however I really do not know.  It does not scare me anymore; however, it would be most helpful if I knew what I was reading. I know that you can see pictures that activate part of the brain, however I have not been looking at any.  I do not have a clock in the room I sleep so for me to see the time I have to look at my phone, so I know it is not a visual trick.  The only light in my room is the streetlight. I have been seeing writing on the walls for the past 10 years and unfortunately, I don’t have an explanation for it. It was scary when it first started but now, I am used to it. I see symbols from a language that I can’t understand. Glad to know I am not the only one! But the question is why this is happening and why us? What is the purpose of it? – Rola It – Toronto Canada

I have also had multiple experiences seeing writing on the walls. I was not just waking up though, which is different than most stories I read. It was over 20 years ago, and it lasted for hours on end, each time. My letters were glowing and, if I must pick a color, I will say lilac (light purple). I do not know what language it was. It looked beautiful to me and familiar, but I could not read it. If I had to pick, based on searches I’ve done over the years, I would say Sanskrit or Hebrew. Something like those languages or one of them. I wish we’d had phones to look it up back then, but I’ve researched it many times and this is the first group of similar stories I’ve seen. But I felt it was a good thing and I was not afraid of it. But I have no clue what any of it said. It covered everything around me. – C Ballard – Omaha USA

I’ve Been Seeing Writing On The Walls For Years Now  The first time I noticed was one day while brushing my teeth in the bathroom with just a hall light on. My skin in the reflection of the mirror. I turned the light on, and it was less noticeable but still there. I thought someone had written on me as I slept somehow. It was not clear enough to read or make out completely, but it left me with the feeling of shame or embarrassment that it was going to stand out to people. It did not make since. I have remembered that when I was younger, in my adolescence, I saw this type thing all the time and thought everyone could, so it was not odd to me then. I have been seeing writing on the walls all the time now. I see the letters, numbers, images and now 3-D images on about all surfaces, skin, rocks etc… I do not understand what it means but would like to figure this out because it does consume me at times. I find myself becoming interested in terrain maps. 3D images pop up out of the terrain from different angles. Images and scenes. I think one reason I am seeing writing on the walls and other surfaces has something to do with my being a tetrachromats. Tetrachromatic vision is like the extreme opposite of colour blindness. It is genetic and can pass from someone that is colour blind to their child. But in the child, it is not that they can’t see colors, it becomes something like being able to see invisible ink. Does anyone know how the read this stuff? It does not make since to me. I am left with a feeling but never really know what it is I am seeing. The images are anything from hieroglyphic to pictures of myself from times in my life and pictures of people and family as well. I have a profound distrust of everything and everyone now and have no problem with saying it and not feeling bad about saying it anymore. I started by seeing what looked like sacred geometry on my wall upon waking in the morning. The next thing I saw was what looks like light language. I usually see a yellow background with white writing on it. I cannot make out what it says. This has happened many times now. Another thing that happened is my windows started glowing yellow. At first, I thought it was the sun coming up, but it was unusually bright and not the same as normal. It keeps happening even though I moved to a different house.

Seeing writing on the walls happens when I first wake up in the morning but can happen multiple times in the same morning. Two times I saw red writing. I jumped out of bed to view it closer as I did not have my glasses on. It fades too quickly. It usually is yellow script on my white wall or white script on a yellow background. It can sometimes look like English, but other times looks like symbolic writing. 

I do not feel afraid at all. I am fascinated! I have always wanted strange cool things to happen to me. I am a very spiritual person and pay attention to synchronicities, numbers like 1:11, 11:11, 222 that I see repeating a lot on clocks and anywhere. I believe they are messages or light code downloads to upgrade us for the Ascension happening now. It makes me excited for what else is coming next! So happy to know others are experiencing the same. Just like the repeating numbers. I thought I was the only one then found out it is a worldwide phenomenon! Be at Peace Everyone! This is a good thing!!!

Many times, since I was a young adult, I have been seeing writing on the walls when I wake. Strange symbols like Hieroglyphics in light. I always tried to read it, but it fades within minutes. One-time I woke to see the strange symbols and read “In Harvest” written on my wall. It was 2003, I do not know what it means, but I never knew anyone else experienced this.

This looked like the language.

Today had been a sad day, I remember feeling like it was over for me. I laid down but couldn’t quite fall asleep until I did. I woke up 10 minutes later terrified. I was awake but in shock, my walls were covered with red writing of symbols in a language I couldn’t understand. It looked a bit Egyptian but also a bit phonetic. It was in the hand writing of a child there were clear pictographs everywhere but there were also doodles, a huge curving circle around a painting I have. It lasted for about 2 minutes and all I could think was “when did I write this? My mother will kill me” yet I had no recollection of such a thing. It was seeing writing on the walls everywhere but not on my ceiling. This has never happened to me before but it looked as though it was written with a red bold marker seeing as I could make it out with my red lights on.

I had the same experience of seeing writing on the walls about a month ago and last night. Last night I went to sleep at about 4am and I woke up at 5am. It was dark outside. I was laying on my left side and I saw these writings on the wall. The writing looked like Chinese or some sort of old scripture. I couldn’t understand anything. It felt like dreaming but I was awake. I was like “oh there is something written on the whole wall, okay”. I didn’t react at that time. I am very scared of these types of things normally, but I didn’t react at that time. But when I came to my senses, I was afraid a little. It looked like when a car passes by your house and sometimes the light comes into your room. The writings looked like it was formed from that light – but it wasn’t. The writing was yellowish in color. And then when I searched “Seeing Writing On The Walls” this morning I was really surprised that other people had been experiencing the same thing.

Here is the short version of my seeing writing on the walls. One night I had a profound experience.  My relatives were coming over from Germany.  My best friend Robert and I were excitedly reading a German dictionary for several hours.  That night I was woken by a roaring sound, like the crashing waves of the nearby ocean or a deep tearing of something metallic.  I was terrified because the sound didn’t have a direction, it was simply everywhere, causing my hairs to stand up in fear and confusion. As I sat up and looked around I was shocked to see a white noise overlay over my vision.  After several disorientating seconds I tried walking around.  I could see symbols or writing scrawling around in the noise over my wardrobe and walls, but was unable to make sense of it and fear kept me from exploring further.  I switched on an old black and white TV set and turned the dial to tune into any channel with normality on it.  After thirty seconds the noise and sound subsided, thank God I wasn’t going to spontaneously combust!  After five or ten minutes reflecting what had happened, I turned off the TV and tried to sleep. I lay there for thirty seconds or more, filled with apprehension, but there was only silence.  I got myself comfortable and relaxed my guard.  It wasn’t long after I heard the rumbling again and within ten seconds the roaring sound and hallucination was back in full force.  I tried turning the radio on and found it had the same dampening effect as the TV.  I switched the radio off as I was becoming curious and felt more in control, and again the rumbling returned.  I decided to switch the radio on but without volume and found it was enough to allow me peace. This amazing and unknown event shaped my spirituality forever because I saw something profound in the link between the inner and outer world.

I’m Seeing Writing on the Walls – by Lisa (Alabama)
I was lying in bed at my mother’s house and I looked at a wall in the corner and a light appeared in that spot with writing on the wall. I had my glasses off and couldn’t see what it read and I was afraid to blink because I thought it would fade away. I did eventually blink and the writing and the light faded. After asking it to come back several times the writing appeared again but I still could not make it out. Days later while lying in bed the writing came back, this time I had my glasses on but it was written in a strange language that I did not understand. It faded but reappeared days later this time in block form going in different directions. I went into the hospital a few weeks later and lying in the hospital bed with the lights off I saw spirits of people walking back and forth through my room as if it was a passage way to somewhere. I also saw a large white male sit in the chair beside my bed and talked with me but I do not remember what we talked about. I also remember a little boy standing at the side of my bed and I don’t remember why. I later moved into a female friend’s house and the writing came back. It was written in Greek or some strange language. I have asked God the why of this and I still don’t know. I temporarily live in my sister’s apartment and I have seen the writing again. A strange feeling comes over me when it appears. I have also experienced my bed vibrating twice. I have heard voices of people talking over the years and have had a spirit voice whisper in my ear information about others that I wouldn’t have otherwise known. I sense people’s emotions and can read people very well which has turned out to be a blessing and a curse because we as people are not very truthful a lot of the time. I have had knocking on the side of my bed and the side of my sofa when I am lying on it. I know when someone is going to die or has died. It’s all very strange and I wonder if someone can help me understand this and tell me how to develop these gifts.  Is anyone else seeing writing on the walls?

I woke up in the middle of the night and clearly saw the word clairvoyance on the ceiling. I’m confused, I know it wasn’t real but I could see it so plainly. I lucid dream regularly but never with an objective and I’ve learned to recognize words and lettering in my dreams but their always inconsistent, random, sometimes disappearing all together. But when I saw “clairvoyance” on my ceiling it was solid, bold, and I was awake. I shrugged off this episode of seeing writing on the walls as a hallucination but should I give it more thought?

It was wonderful to have found this page with so many reports from people who go through this experience of seeing writing on the walls. I researched a lot in the Portuguese language, because I live in Brazil and I did not find anything, until I translated a sentence for the English that brought me here. The writings are on the wall in the old language, now I see pictograms that do not make any sense to me, I’ve seen colorful diamonds in mosaic, with spheres that turned in their surroundings, a very beautiful sight. I continue as everyone seeking an explanation for this, the brain could not create such a manifestation, since they are symbols and geometries that I have never seen before, I believe to be downloads of other dimensions but with our limitations it is difficult to decipher. I’m Seeing Writing On The Walls Too! – by Shana (Sartell MN USA)
I had been seeing writing on the walls a few times before, usually it’s related to my cerebral pressure being up and I usually recognize the words as something I read earlier in the evening. However tonight I was laying in bed trying to fall asleep and symbols started to appear on the wall. Now I did fall earlier in the night but did not hit my head and I was feeling in a fog all day earlier today for some weird reason.  The closest description I can think of what I saw tonight was similar to the Hebrew alphabet and it had a gold tint to it as it appeared on the wall. I do have RH negative blood and it always seems to happen when I am almost ready to fall asleep. I have had experiences with the paranormal over the years and recently even knew at late in the evening instantly where my husband was when he did not come home from work and had gotten in trouble. Where he was just literally popped in my head at 3 am while I was cleaning the kitchen since I was worried about him.

I wake up at least 3 times a month and looked at the wall through the doorway of our room in front of me and see Mayan type of writings or actual Mayan paintings.  Sometimes the pictures seem to be in motion. I do have 2 pictures of Mayan warriors in the house but down stairs. Also I see outlines of men and women in green and plaid shirts or gowns. They are transparent. They just stand there outside the door never come in the door. It really bothers me that I can’t explain what is going on.
